Vision for Teaching and Learning
We want learning at Dyffryn Taf to be an exciting journey of discovery, brought to life with high quality teaching and imaginative use of resources. Teachers are encouraged to reflect on their practice, collaborate with colleagues and receive any appropriate training required to improve their practice. We also listen to what our pupils are telling us, which helps us to refine their learning experiences.
As well as developing subject specific and cross curricular skills, our curriculum is designed to ensure students develop into well-rounded individuals ready to progress in their learning and the world beyond school. We encourage our students to work hard and perform to the best of their abilities. This ensures they are active learners and makes being in lessons a rewarding experience.
To be successful at school, students need to be happy, taught by outstanding teachers and motivated to achieve. We believe children thrive in a secure but challenging setting where they are treated with care and respect, where there are lots of opportunities for personal, spiritual and moral development and where students have the chance to take responsibility for their own learning. Through homework, students are encouraged to be independent learners.
Pupils starting in Year 7 will experience an exciting and innovative new curriculum, designed to build on their experiences at primary school, supporting them to progress in the ‘Four Purposes of Learning’. All teaching and learning activities in the school are ultimately designed to meet these ‘Four Purposes of Learning’ as defined by the Curriculum for Wales. We strive for all pupils to become:
- Ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives
- Enterprising, creative contributors ready to play a full part in life and work
- Ethical, informed citizens ready to be citizens of Wales and the World
- Healthy, confident individuals ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society
A broad, balanced and relevant curriculum ensures that every child is well catered for. In Years 7, 8 and 9 students study a curriculum that includes English; Mathematics; Science; Religious Education; Welsh; Geography; History; ICT; Modern Languages; Technology; Art; Music; Drama; PE; and PSE.
In Years 10 and 11, students follow a large range of academic and vocational courses to suit every student’s needs and aspirations. All students study English Language and English Literature; Mathematics: Numeracy and Mathematics; Science; Religious Studies; Welsh Baccalaureate, Welsh as a first or second language and a number of optional courses.
